The Launch of the Cemix Prostate Cancer Walk 2023
The first Prostate Cancer Walk in Barbados will be held Sunday, May 21st at The Garrison Savannah. The Cemix Prostate Warrior Walk was announced at the official launch, held at Cemix’s St Peter office.
“Here at Cemix, we specialise in concrete, asphalt and aggregates. But cancer awareness has been a core pillar for over a decade now,” shared Cemix General Manager, Jason Edwards, as he recalled the various cancer awareness programmes the title sponsor was involved with.
“Back in 2014, we launched Green Hearts for Pink Ribbons, our breast cancer awareness and testing initiative in partnership with Barbados Cancer Society, offering free breast screenings to over 300 women across the island.
In 2017, we focused on childhood and paediatric cancer awareness – with our Green Hearts for Gold Ribbons initiative – working closely with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to ensure they had the adequate equipment to treat our nation’s children battling cancer.”
Referring to the hard-to-miss concrete trucks, he continued, ‘Most recently, in 2019, we painted those ribbons blue to focus on prostate cancer testing and awareness. Since then Cemix has held a number of events, offering free or subsidised PSA tests to over 500 men, through joint efforts with our partners.
Today, we are so pleased and honoured to continue this work with the Barbados Cancer Society, coming together for this inaugural Prostate Cancer Walk. Cemix remains committed to raising awareness, facilitating testing, and reducing stigmas around men being proactive in all areas of health.”
Persons can register for Cemix Prostate Cancer Warrior Walk at the The Barbados Cancer Society, Upper Collymore Rock, Bridgetown
